This outstanding and renowned band will bring you this uplifting concert featuring the music of the big band greats including Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Gordon Goodwin and our own Andy Fiddes! Featured vocalist Heather Price will bring some of the great Big Band vocal charts to life including (of course) pieces by the great Ella Fitzgerald. The Dungeon Big Band – from our 20th Anniversary gig March 2024
The Dungeon Big Band is an agglomeration of 17 amazing musicians, who find their raison d’être in the power of the big band.
Formed way back in 2004, the Dungeon Big Band has been presenting specially-conceived concerts Blues In The Night, You And The Night And The Music, Swing, Swing, Swing; Ella, Let’s Dance; Crime Themes; Lady Be Good; Miller’s Tale at its home base Adamstown Arts, as well as Newcastle University Conservatorium, Newcastle Jazz Festival, Lizottes, Manning Valley Arts Festival, The Newcastle Club, Luna park Crystal Palace, Warners Bay Theatre and the University Great hall for the ABC, Newcastle & Hunter Jazz Club, The Leukaemia Foundation, Newcastle University Choir, Newcastle Grammar School, Nelson Bay Rotary Club, 2NURFM and the World Hand Surgeons’ Conference.
The band covers the important groups from the Swing Era (Benny Goodman, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Woody Herman) as well as featuring originals from members of the band.
In 2024 the Band celebrated its 20th anniversary with a specially-programmed gig at Adamstown Uniting Church
The Band also played their annual spot in the Newcastle Music Festival on Thursday 15 August 2024 presenting
DESTINATION SWING
The band performed at a dance bonanza SUPREME BALLROOM, Friday 7 June 2024 for a night of dancing to the sounds of the big band at Rathmines Theatre….keep on the lookout for our next dance event.
