Sing Along to the Shows – Songs that Won the Oscars
Saturday 24 March @ 2:00 pm$10
Sing Along recreates the nostalgic pleasure of singing favourite songs around the piano with a group of friends. Philip Sketchley is an amazing pianist, keeping the singers in tune. All words are provided and local theatre performers lead the singing. A delicious afternoon tea completes a delightful get-together.
In early March this year, the 90th Academy Awards ceremony will be held in Los Angeles. The Award for Best Song was introduced in 1934, with The Continental winning that year. Thanks for the Memory won the fifth Best Song Award in 1938. And the next Sing Along to the Shows! at 2pm, Saturday, 24th March, in the Dungeon, Adamstown Uniting Church, will be saying Thanks for the memories of the fabulous songs that have won this award over the years. The list of Oscar-winning songs includes such classic favourites as Mona Lisa, Never on a Sunday, Moon River, Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Secret Love through to the catchy hit tunes of the Disney movies. Each one will send singers home humming the much-loved melodies.
Entry at the door is $10, with funds to Camp Breakaway, providing respite care for high-needs children and adults and their families.
