Newcastle Music Festival event – Christopher Allan (baritone) with Erin Sweetman (piano) in recital.
Robert Schumann epitomises the Romantic spirit in music, and this concert will feature his masterpiece Dichterliebe, celebrating the woes and aspirations of the creative soul.
Christopher Allan is senior lecturer in Voice at the University of Newcastle, NSW and a well-known baritone soloist. Chris was Artistic and Musical Director of the Newcastle University Choir from 1999-2004, and Musical Director from 2011. From 2004–2009 Chris directed the Conservatorium Choir.
Chris performs with Cantillation and has also performed with Pinchgut Opera. With Jennifer Barnes, Rosemary Saunders and Paul Bevan, Chris performs in the group Waxing Lyrical.
Erin Sweetman studied piano at the Newcastle Conservatorium, completing a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours. She studied under Ann O’Hearn and Natalia Ricci, and has achieved the Licentiate and Associate Diploma of Music in both Piano and Clarinet with distinction.
Erin has performed internationally as soloist with the Newcastle Wind Orchestra, and as accompanist to the Hunter Singers at various international concerts and events. In January, Erin attended the Music Director Intensive at Goodspeed Opera House in New York and has recently recorded with Cellist, Anthea Scott Mitchell which will be released in the coming months.
Currently teaching music at Newcastle Grammar School, Erin teaches music, accompanies HSC students and the Chamber Choir and is the Music Director of the annual musical.
